Empowering Youth Through Music
The Makor association has been operating since 2009 with the aim of promoting youth in risk situations through music. The association establishes and operates music centers for teenagers in risk situations and provides them with continuous, meaningful and long-term musical activity.
As a direct, unmediated art form, music enables expression, an emotional outlet, and human connection. It connects humans, channeling feelings of anger and alienation, helps to shape our identity and ease our pain. Through music, we can learn about ourselves and our environment, connect our inner creativity and strengthen our ability to express it, in preparation for an active and positive engagement in all life systems.
The association's vision is based on a deep belief and recognition of the power of music to bring about change. We use the power of attraction that music has, to create a desire and commitment to deeper and broader processes. We are committed to giving the adolescent youth, who grows up in an environment of adversity, a significant anchor in their life. To contribute both to their personal empowerment and to their connection to the community around them.
Our Activity
Musical Horizon
Musical Horizon is the schools project of Makor. Its purpose is to enable musical activity in schools intended for at-risk youth, or for these youth, who are in normative schools, so that they will have equal opportunities in the field of music.
Tuned Tone
Makor operates music projects that operate adapted to the locked Facilities of the Youth Protection Authority, and according to what is required in these Facilities.
The Youth Protection Authority is responsible for authoritarian-coercive out-of-home care for teenagers who are in situations of increased risk, delinquency and social deviance.
The Music Children Project
The Music Children project is the flagship project of Makor.
Its purpose is to establish and operate, throughout the country, music centers to empower youth who are in risk situations and/or those who come from a socio-economic distress background and to provide them with equal opportunities in the field of music
